Hey hi hello. My name is Haleigh Givens, an artist living and, sometimes, working in southern Illinois. Between searching out weird trees and taking photos of dead birds, I force my dog to hang out with me while I draw way too much. Thank you, welcome, and I, truly, am sorry.
Artist Statement.
My work examines personal experiences with high anxiety, panic disorder, and severe dissociation: using the creative process as a way of understanding and working through moments and events, my art attempts to build a bridge between the perceived world and the ethereal. With pieces just out of touch from reality and often floating in the spaces between the two, the work reaches an understanding within itself— it seeks meaning where there may be none, it seeks answers where none may be found, it seeks a grounded understanding of oneself in relation to one’s surroundings and past. Always searching.
